Serving at St. Mark’s

Every gift is precious in God's sight, from brewing coffee and baking cookies to serving at the altar or visiting the homebound.

The volunteers who serve on committees and ministries at St. Mark's are the life blood and the engine of the church. They donate the time and energy that ensures everything gets done. Volunteering is a wonderful way to get to know other members in the church community.

Altar Guild

Often described as a "behind the scenes" ministry, this team prepares the sanctuary for worship.

The St. Mark’s altar guild sees our ministry as facilitating worship at St. Mark’s. It is our responsibility and privilege to tend to the Sanctuary so that our congregation can engage in worship that is filled with order and beauty. Altar guild members learn many fascinating aspects of Church tradition, including the purpose of the vessels, vestments, linens and paraments we use in worship. We take care of the legacy of gifts that have been given such as altar ware, silver, and so forth to honor a relative or member who has died.

Anyone can be a member of the altar guild. New members get hands-on instruction from experienced altar guild members. We work in groups of two or three to prepare for church services and meet as a whole group twice a year to prepare for the Christmas and Easter seasons.

Bread Bakers

Volunteers use their own recipes to bake the bread that is given out to our Sunday Visitors.

I want to bake.

Care Team

St. Mark’s Care Team recognizes that every person in our church community is on a journey and that sometimes they need a little extra support along the way. Currently, we provide meals, run errands, help with home chores and of course pray for people who need healing or comfort. We hope to grow into assisting the Pastoral Care and Caregiver Support ministries.

I want to help.

Caregiver outreach

Ministry members arrange altar flowers in smaller containers for delivery to caregivers.

Children & Youth Worship

Members of this team teach, assist in teaching, or feed our youth during Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, or other activities throughout the year.

I’m interested in becoming involved.

Choir

Music has long been an important aspect of worship and the life of the church at St. Mark's. The church values strong congregational singing with support provided by the pipe organ and favors live music over recorded, acoustic over amplified. St. Mark's Choir has sung a variety of repertoire over the years and has participated in numerous ecumenical performances involving choirs from Durango-area churches. Instrumentalists – both guests and members of the congregation – often provide additional musical support. No audition is necessary to join the St. Mark's Choir. Reading music is helpful, but not required. Rehearsals are suspended for the winter holidays.

I want to sing.

Christmas Bazaar

This ministry offers a variety of opportunities for service, including organizing, baking, setting up, working on the day of the Bazaar and much more.

Get involved.

Coffee Hour Hosts

On a rotating schedule, the members of this ministry set up, make coffee, and provide a snack after or between Sunday services.

Join the rotation.

Library & Archives Ministry

Looks after our book, cd, dvd, and children's collections, handles special orders from parishioners, and stores the St. Mark's history and archives.

I'd like to help.

The St. Lawrence Library & Archives Committee looks after St. Mark’s books, CD/DVDs and children’s worship book collections. They also receive and fill out special orders from parishioners and handle the storage and presentation of St. Mark’s history and archives.
